October 2009....

It’s not envisaged much work will be spent on the transmission besides the possibility of removing the rear diff housings so we can finish cleaning out the old oil/gunk.

 

We know the main drive clutch slips in certain situations but with care it should last a while, changing the clutch assembly maybe a future project but as the cheapest dual clutch assembly is in excess of £350 it’s too much money for the present.

 

A new PTO shaft oil seal has been purchased and fitted in the rear transmission to try and curb an oil leak before painting, we don’t need an oil patch on some new paint.

 

November 2009....

No remedial work on the actual transmission mechanicals was carried out. Both drive shafts were removed during prep for painting and removal of the brake system.

 

One of the drive shaft shims from the left side was removed broken and incomplete so we replaced this with an equivalent Massey Ferguson one. The only difference being that the replacement has one extra stud hole punched out.

 

The rest of the work in November focused on prepping and painting the transmission castings and rebuilding all the brake system and hydraulic linkage.

 

While searching for some material in one of the old sheds Dad came across the old original PTO cover so we got this primed, painted and fitted too.
