October 2009....

At the bottom of our list of 'to-do's' is to have a look over the steering system and check out the front pivot pin. Nothing is evidently wrong although a new steering wheel may be a purchase later on. The drag arms could do with new tie rod end rubbers on a couple of the ball joints.

 

The wheels will be removed, cleaned up and painted the correct Fordson Wheel orange. Although a little old and showing some wear and cracks the tyres are useable and are in no need of immediate replacement.

 

November 2009....

Both rear wheels have been removed stripped down and sanded back. Old original orange paint was seen for the first time in many years. The rears got primed, top coated and rebuilt then another coat of orange on top.

 

Towards the end of November we got the front axle and pivot stripped down and removed. No real issues were seen in fact the whole dismantling only took two hours including the steering box removal. The front pivot pin and bushings condition are fine, no washers or spacers were found but this is apparently common. The front wheels and hubs are ready to be cleaned and stripped and painted. The bearings show wear but the condition are of them are not concerning.

 

The steering arms were seized on to the steering box splined shaft, a gear puller will be used to hopefully draw these off as we need to check the steering box. We know we have some play in the steering box so we may be able to shim it out.
